How To Work Through Any Song

  • Learn From Your Mistakes
  • Mapping Out Your Song
  • Track Your Results

Genres Without music, life would B flat. All Jokes aside, are you allowing yourself to be serious? Do you find that you sing in front of others, but you’re not actually putting effort into it?

Sometimes, around that one friend/group we will sing, but internally know that we are not actually trying. We do this out of fear of making a mistake while being serious.

We tell ourselves “it’s ok”, because we are playfully singing. This is a coping method which actually will hold you back most of the time.

It’s important to understand that it is ok to make mistakes, even if you are singing seriously. What’s important is that your mistakes will contribute to your success in the future. That you are paying attention to why something happened and what to do to fix it.

Learn From Your Mistakes

Genres Mistakes are prone to happen while singing. Its unavoidable, but with the right practice and methods you can reduce this greatly if not all.

You don’t want to draw attention to your mistakes. Not in a performance, and not too much when you’re practicing.

It’s important to know you’ve made a mistake, because knowing proves that you can hear what you don’t like.

Try not to draw too much attention because that takes away from your ability to sing. Widening your eyes when you go to a wrong note, pausing, or telling everyone you messed up will only take away from your practice or performance.

Try focusing on the emotion of what you sing to avoid getting sucked into overthinking.

Mapping Out Your Song

Have you warmed up? Did you get enough sleep? DId you just wake up? Your energy levels when singing can be most if not all of the issues you may be having when you sing. If you are tired and just woke up, this makes for more shallow breaths, affecting your ability to sing.

Think: Am I using my lift? Am I using my nose? Is my Jaw lowered? Map out the song’s lyrics and drill yourself on using the right muscles at the right time.

This way there are no doubts as per what you should be doing, where you should be taking your breaths, or how you use your muscles.

Track Your Results

Success is measured through progress and goals. If you find that you are unable to take your goals seriously due to your progress. Try a different approach.

The easy way to measure your progress is through evidence. We tend to feel motivated knowing we are making improvements. An easy way to accomplish this is through making videos of yourself singing and then looking back after 2-4 weeks of practice.

Monitor your voice and note when it’s different, think of why that may be. See blog post Respect Your Voice for more information on success.
