Craving for the rush of high notes vibrating in your head?

If so, you’ll want to sing using your head voice. Head voice is a term used to describe what you feel when you sing high notes.

Your vocal chords begin to create a vibration that you typically feel in your head.

This is not the same as singing in falsetto. (To learn more about the different parts of your voice, read this blog.)

Most singers have experimented with head voice before, but let’s ensure you are doing it correctly so that you don’t strain your voice.

Singing a high note can push your vocal chords in a way that may later damage them so it’s important to use proper form when exploring new singing techniques.

So listen up!

How to Tell if You’re Using Your Head Voice

Put your hand on your chest and sing some low notes. Can you feel the
vibration in your hand? Now start singing notes a bit higher.

And higher.

At some point you’ll notice you no longer feel any vibrations through your chest.

Where is that sound resonating now?

The vibration will transfer to other parts of your head. So cool right? Keep doing this until you feel you’ve figured out what feels right for you.

Now you’re ready to practice singing in your head voice.

You may consider researching other singers using this technique, this way you can see how others and professionals use it.

This could spark a new idea in your mind as something new to try. But of course do not compare yourself to another singer too critically.

All voices and talents are different and that is the beautiful thing about music. It is all about the way you express yourself.
