Being meticulous about setting goals is what will lead you to a happier and more enjoyable lifestyle with singing.
Grab a calendar and make sure to chart your progress going forward. This is helpful as it keeps you accountable.
2023 is here and if your singing goals still are, we are here to help!
Recap & Refocus
Recap and Refocus, new years isn’t just about setting new goals, but also looking at any of the old ones you have not yet completed.
A goal doesn’t have to be huge, it can be as simple as learning the keys on piano, or realizing something you didn’t before in a lesson.
New knowledge gained will be useful to you in the future the more you work at it.
Some people look at the last year and say they haven’t done anything.
Try this exercise, write 10 things you did this last year vocally that you think you’ve improved on.
It doesn’t have to just be physical skill, it can be a performance or experience too.
Setting Goals
First, ask yourself what kind of goals you want to set. Vocally you can improve: belting, riffs, volume, tone, enunciation, pace, pitch, technique, style, and energy.
You could work on a difficult song, or even stage presence. There are many instruments to learn, and knowing at least one would help you improve your ear.
Think of how good you are in any of these categories and ask yourself if there is room for improvement.
Knowing what you’re good at is fantastic, but knowing what you need to improve on will make you better.
Write at least 10 things down, putting your goals on paper is a good way of making sure you keep track of them.
Keeping Track of Your Resolution
A calendar is a surefire way to keep track of important dates and challenge yourself.
Giving yourself a few weeks of time to improve with a skill and a good way to measure your progress.
Progress is motivation, if you see something is beneficial, you are more likely to do it often.
Professional singers rely on this to keep their voices healthy and make sure they are doing the right exercises consistently.
Take the 10 things you wrote earlier, and assign them a due date by month. This way you have 12 months to work on 10 things.
By the end of the year, you will be a much better singer, who is ready to set their new goals for the following year.
