How do you feel about the Songwriting process?

Owner of Voicercise, Roxy Miller, has been writing songs for a long time.
“I think for a lot of people, writing songs can be scary.”
In a world where perfection is highly sought after, you may feel the pressure to get it right the first time. As if that’s how art works.
Artistry is a process.
Inspiration and creativity take time to form and reach its peak. Maybe you’ve got stopped or stuck, but what’s important to know is that the songwriting process can start off as something simple.
Here are some tips on the Songwriting Process
First thing you want to do when writing a song is choose some chords. It can be on a guitar. piano, even a harp. If you don’t play an instrument, this can be difficult. Most singer/songwriters can play some type of instrument, even if it’s simple. If you don’t have an instrument, try searching for free instrumentals on YouTube to practice the song writing process with.

Pick out some easy chords and begin playing them a few times. Try something simple like the C chord, they’re all on the same scale. This means that they are all on the white notes. And if you need help with understanding that, just let us know. Now play that C chord and sing a melody.
If you’re using YouTube, search for beats “like Arianna Grande” or whoever you like. You can use these for practice.
USE YOUR UNIQUENESS TO CREATE YOUR MELODY
Now write some words, maybe you are writing a silly song today. Singing a silly song is really important when it comes to songwriting, because the biggest thing that you feel as a songwriter is that you feel stupid. Don’t try to make everything perfect too soon, you have time for that. Think of this as a rough draft or laying down a foundation.

Roxy knows that because she’s been teaching songwriting for 20 years, and that’s the most common thing people tell her that they feel about themselves before they quit trying to write songs.
Here’s the secret, you are going to feel stupid.
If you haven’t felt stupid writing a song, it means you’ve never finished a song. So continue past it. Hopefully you are by yourself in a room, and if you feel stupid, you feel stupid. Nothing happens. Nothing bad happens. You are okay. Trust the Songwriting process.

After you finish writing the silly song, you can put actual lyrics to it. You then can make sure that the song works with the melody, words, piano and so forth. Remeber that the songwriting process doesn’t happen in two seconds, and there are steps to it.
Once you have the chords or the track, and you have the melody, then you’re going to start writing a silly song. You’re going to make sure that you can put lyrics into that without feeling uncomfortable and just make it flow. Make it up like you’re freestyling. And if you feel stupid again, please do this by yourself. It does not matter if you feel stupid.
You have to keep going!
If you haven’t felt stupid enough as a singer or as a songwriter, you probably are not as good as you could be. You have to move past these feelings so that you can achieve your highest level of songwriting greatness.
Lastly is write some lyrics that actually make sense to you. Don’t try to think that every time that you write something, it is going to be like that forever. It’s totally going to change. You can write a song and change most of it, but get something down on paper. Have fun! Don’t make it so serious.
