How Not to Sing Through your Nose

Have you ever heard that you are singing through your nose and sound nasally when you sing?
Don’t be discouraged by what people are saying because it is not totally irregular.
We want to teach you how you can fix this and learn how to sing in a proper way so that you sound your best.
The first step is understanding what singing through your nose really means.
Is “Singing Through Your Nose” Even Possible?
First off, I want to start off by telling you that singing through your nose is not possible. When someone says that you are, what they mean to say is that you sound nasal. Although the common misconception is that the nasal has to do with your nose, it is actually the space between your nostrils.
But do you know what creates the sound of your voice? The space between your soft palate and the back of your tongue. This space is the amplifier that makes your voice louder and molds the tone of your voice.
The way it is shaped has everything to do with the way you sound. This means that you are in total control of that! You can do this by controlling what happens with your tongue and the soft palate muscle in the back of your mouth.
How to Stop Sounding Nasal
When you’re singing and the back part of your tongue is too close to the roof of your mouth, you end up getting a nasal sound. Go ahead and try singing like that then notice the difference when you open that space up.
Think about resting your tongue on the bottom of your mouth. This allows the air that is your voice to vibrate outward instead of in a little pocket in the back of your throat.
Some people just have more of a tendency to speak more nasally than others and that is normal too. Everybody is created differently and that includes the way our eight singing muscles are created.
Some are born with their tongue bigger in that back part of their throat, eliminating the air flow between that and the soft palate.
Are Sinus Issues Connected to Sounding More Nasal?
Also people with sinus issues tend to have more of a nasal sound when they sing. There are ways to help with sinus problems. We recommend a product provided by Sun Breeze. By controlling these muscles, you can change that nasal sound.
So if anyone ever tells you that you sing through your nose, just smile because they really don’t even know what they are talking about. Maybe you can enlighten them.
