Here’s An Excerpt From my Recent Youtube Interview with JuanLuis. A Quick Singing tip!
Roxy Miller: Finding Your Voice [Interview]
JuanLuis: Roxy, what’s a singing tip you can give our viewers at home?
Roxy: Number one thing that people come to me being freaked out about is high notes. High notes come from emotion and if you think that you can somehow perfectly sing a high note, you are never going to.
It’s a huge reach in the direction that you don’t want to go, it’s past where you are comfortable and that requires a lot of emotion and singing it loud and with a lot of intensity. If you can do that then usually you can raise your ability to singing way higher than you think you can and I do it with people all the time. Put the necessary amount of emotion into it; stop thinking so much.
Just sing the note, you know what I mean? And if you have trouble singing the note, figure out when it was that you sang the note and that you had a bad experience and clean that up and then try again.
Why Do My High Notes Sound So Bad?
Muscles have to work in the way that they get stronger the more you fail. So it’s important to practice kind of by yourself or with someone that you trust. Who knows that for you to be able to do something that you couldn’t do before you’re gonna have to go past your boundaries. Which sometimes means it’s gonna sound bad. And you’re gonna have to have it sound bad until it sounds good because those are muscles finally getting strong enough to sing the notes.
You of course don’t want to be hurting your throat or anything like that. You don’t wanna do that. But, if you’re nice and open and “LAAAA” singing with your mouth really open, then you’re not gonna hurt your voice, you’re just gonna get your voice stronger.
That’s the best singing tip I can give you for singing high notes with intensity and emotion.
