Training Your Voice for Greatness
Does your voice sound amazing some days and lack singing consistency the next? Maybe you sounded great at your long-awaited recital but didn’t do well at the karaoke night singing songs you’ve performed before. Like any art form, there has to be some type of routine in place that will create the same good results over & over.
Singing is no different; the good result we seek in this art form is voice predictability and consistency. This can only be achieved through vocal growth that takes a whole lifestyle approach. Consistency in singing starts with understanding how your habits, body, health and mindset shape your performance. Let’s break it down:
Make Time for Your Voice

First, consistency thrives on daily practice. Even 15 minutes daily can strengthen your voice and make it more flexible. Familiarity breeds ease—techniques like vibrato and belting improve when you give your voice the time it deserves.
Incorporating the habit into your daily schedule is the best way to create this consistency. For example, you could practice one to two Voicercise techniques each day on your commute to work. Or you could sing your favorite song during a lunch or study break.
Just make sure to warm up 2-3 minutes beforehand to get the best results. Inserting these practices into what you’re already doing will make the task much easier to accomplish.
Watch What You Consume

Second, note that what you eat and drink affects your singing consistency too. Avoid dairy as much as possible before singing, (sorry cheese lovers), and stick to water before practice. Try to drink room-temperature water if possible. Or try warm tea with honey to relax your vocal cords. Regular cardio-type exercises will also strengthen your lungs & diaphragm to help with breathing.
By paying attention to how your body feels and giving it the recovery time it needs will add to your ability to get the same great results more often.
Overcome Mental Barriers

The third aspect to consider is your mindset. If you’re holding back how well you can sing because of fear and doubt, getting into the habit of building confidence will be your best friend. How do you build this muscle of confidence? Through practice, of course!
Sing in front of honest and kind family members or friends and get their feedback. Sing in front of your mirror or record yourself to see how you would like to improve. Once you believe in your ability because you’ve proven to yourself that you can do it, the fear will fade, and your potential will shine.
Singing consistency is all about caring for your voice with intention, patience, and routine. Practice often, trust yourself, and let your confidence take the spotlight!
