You can develop anxiety as a singer if you are one to let your mind wander.

It is imperative that you look at the bright side for your performances as negative thinking can lead to more anxiety.

We are not born with anxiety but rather develop it through experience and circumstance. Trauma is a contributing factor that is often overlooked, however there are solutions to help you develop good thinking habits.

Singing Anxiety

Genres

Anxiety is something that is triggered from uncertainty.

In the case of singing, this can be when a singer is unsure of how to sing, or lacks confidence in their singing voice.

Confidence is key to singing, and the key to confidence is self respect.

If your mind tends to think negative thoughts then the reason you feel anxious may be a bit deeper.

We can practice positive affirmations to challenge any negative thoughts with positive ones.

Anxiety can affect your diaphragm and breathing. It is imperative you value your voice when singing, and can overlook tiny mistakes for bigger rewards in the long run.

If you get nervous when being around a lot of people or just in general, have you ever thought there was a trigger for that you developed maybe at a very young age?

With singing, we can be sensitive, and a bad experience can leave a lasting impression on our comfort practicing it around others.

Trauma

Genres

If you find it really difficult to escape your way of thinking, this can be comparing yourself to the artist, or thinking you’re not good enough.

The value you have comes from your uniqueness. No one has ever had experiences like you or vocal chords like you.

The same applies to celebrities and iconic voices we’ve fallen in love with.

We can get pretty close, but it’s a tough sell when the objective is trying to copy a voice completely.

Experiencing trauma is another way that we develop anxiety in singing. Trauma doesn’t have to be physical, but mental as well.

Recalling a past experience where you made a mistake singing and feeling embarrassed is an example of lingering feelings.

These lingering feelings are what can cause you to hesitate and make mistakes while singing.

Self Confrontation

The solution to trauma or negative feelings is to confront the issue.

Limitless potential is something everyone has if the ambition is there.

Now that we understand that, its important to note: your experiences don’t define you, but they do help build you.

Lack of knowledge is the key bearer of anxiety. If you don’t know how to fix what your doing wrong, your left to believe that you are the problem.

You will never be who you were before, so dwelling over past experiences is something you have to reconcile with yourself. With time you gain experience, and this is what will subside your fear of singing.
