Marketing Yourself As A Musician

  • Branding And Merchandise
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Connections And Networking

Marketing How you market yourself can make or break your success as a musician. We live in a time where saying things and doing things is critical to how we develop our presence.

Everything we post online can be accessed and saved. So consider that as you start marketing your music.

The more platforms you post your music to, the more likely you are to be heard. The people you know can show it to others, also helping expand your outreach.

Lastly, you want to try to make local/public appearances to increase the chances of being heard; or meeting others who will help spread your music.

Marketing your music requires creating a collective of people who enjoy your music and wish to spread it.

Branding And Merchandise

Marketing Think of yourself as your own personal brand. You want to be unique, stylish and specific.

What is a brand? A brand is a type of product created by a particular company under a particular name. As a musician your brand is you and you are the company.

Everything you create like music, merchandise, social media posts. The choices you make and the things you say will all fall under your brand.

Some people have trouble developing their own brand. Think about it: your experiences, relationships, and knowledge are what make you unique.

Try to think about your experiences as a guideline for the brand you want to create. Selling merchandise is a good way to generate rapport with buyers and increase your brand awareness.

Social Media Marketing

Marketing You can freely market your music by posting it on social media websites or apps like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Tik Tok.

There are apps like distrokid that make it easy to distribute your music across all platforms.

Some artists use personal websites to link all of their social media.

Being a content creator isn’t easy. Some people quit their jobs to focus solely on content creation. There is truth in the consistency of posting.

Analytics can tell us that consistent posting can guarantee you followers. Develop a schedule to try and post to your social media once a week.

Start a stockpile of ideas for your content so that way you can grow your followers. You can start small doing covers, or posting your own music.

The most important thing is to be consistent.

Connections And Networking

Most artists make it off the ground by knowing someone who knows someone.

You can meet local artists by going to open mics or karaoke. Or you can use social media to scout artists you’d like to collaborate with.

Going to gigs to showcase your ability will attract people to want to hear more. “Your friends of your friends have friends” and this works like a domino effect.

You can learn a lot from other local artists and some of them may know producers or labels. This is a great way to acquire fanbase.

Try to support other local artists and you may find support all around you.
