Why Musicians Should Post To Social Media
- Value
- Social Media Platforms
- Growth
On social media, we see all kinds of influencers, and celebrities.
The important thing to note is they didn’t get there overnight.
There is value in posting consistently online, however, for desired results you may want to look into every platform you can use.
Growth, and accumulation of followers is required nowadays to make it as a musician, performer or artist.
Value
There is much value in posting online. The first thing to note is that not everyone feels comfortable posting to social media.
If you are an artist and struggle with posting due to insecurity, this is for you.
Posting photos and art is one thing, but posting a live performance or singing can sometimes carry the same anxiety as if you were to do it publicly.
Posting is a great way to start acclimating yourself to the culture of being in the public eye.
After posting for a while, you will start to feel better about your work, and can even go back and see the progress you have made.
This is what compels us to continue posting. Those who comment and look forward to your next post can be a motivational boost for some.
The bottom line is getting yourself out there so people know you exist.
Social Media Platforms
Where should you post? The first thing I’d look to set up is a website.
This will be the place where anyone can find all of your projects or posts.
You can use platforms like instagram, facebook, youtube, soundcloud, spotify, apple music, twitter, snapchat, tik tok, etc.
There are many platforms to use and you don’t have to use a different post for each platform.
Start by posting the same video to each platform and uploading all your links to your website.
This way your work is easy to find and you can accrue more followers.
There are analytics you can search and use which help determine which hashtags are the best for the style of music you are using.
The hashtags help with SEO(search engine optimization).
This is what pulls your videos and content to the front of whomever searches those specific keywords(hashtags).
In time you will grow so long as you keep your posts consistent.
Growth
Growth is one of the most powerful things as a singer.
Seeing your growth and being able to look back on it is great for motivation.
If you see more likes or more comments you know you are headed in the right direction.
This may also mean new opportunities if you ever are to show your existing work to any labels or producers.
It can streamline your progress to have a list of things you’ve already progressed with.
Posting to social media will not only make you more confident, but also help you with your knowledge of marketing yourself as a musician.
