3 Ways To Improve Your Stage Presence
- Stage Presence Workshops
- Karaoke
- Research Performing Styles
If you’re like most people, being on stage can be frightening. The idea of looking like a stick and not feeling comfortable with our own voices.
There are multiple ways to conquer confidence. The first step is acknowledging, and the second step is consistency to achieve comfortability. Meaning, you want to do exercises regularly.
Some of the best ways to develop your stage presence is to take a workshop, regularly do karaoke, and to research what kind of performer you are.
Take A Stage Presence Workshop
A talent based workshop focuses on teaching you things about acting, singing, and other talent related skills.
Doing comedy improv is a good way to learn how to develop a connection with your audience. This can help you become quick on your feet.
Comedians often have to handle hecklers, which helps you learn how to diffuse a situation while remaining calm and collected.
During a show or a performance something could always go wrong. The important thing is how you handle it.
You need to be able to be vulnerable and empathetic. Able to feel your audience and shift your presence based on that audience.
We can get really good at it the more experience we gain. Having a concert is no different.
Become A Regular At Karaoke
Try going out and doing karaoke. This is a fantastic way to get used to crowds and singing in public.
If you become worried by the amount of people, most karaoke locations are bars anyway. Since there are plenty to go to, you never have to go to the same one.
You will likely meet other singers, so karaoke is a perfect spot for networking. It’s a good way to get used to a microphone in a non serious environment.
One of the best things is learning how to control your breathing if you tend to get anxiety.
Try not to take your karaoke mistakes too seriously. Instead look at them as opportunities for improvement.
Research Performing Styles
Look into what and who your favorite artists are. Who inspires you? Look at their concert performances or maybe even go to one.
Seeing a live singer helps us to determine what we would do, and what we wouldn’t do. Try to develop some ideas and write them down.
When performing, try to know exactly what it is that you’re going to do. In acting this is called blocking. Blocking are your movements that you make while acting in a scene.
Being a performer is putting your acting hat on and overall, letting your personality do the talking.
If you’re singing and at the end of the chorus you walk to the left of the stage, that is better than doing nothing, unless you’re singing something slow and intimate where not much movement is required.
This is something that you will have to develop yourself, but be patient as these things will take time.
